Taxi driver carjacked by customer while child tagged along

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - A taxi driver was carjacked and robbed at gunpoint by a customer who had his young daughter with him.

On Sunday, the taxi driver picked up a man and a young girl from the Suez Motel in Warren. The man appeared to be in his 20s and the daughter is said to have been 7 years old.

The man never told the driver a specific destination, but instead rattled off random directions.

Then, he pulled out a gun and pointed it through the shield separating the front and back of the taxi, which is said to have been open.

FOX 2's Andrea Isom reports the suspect forced the driver in the backseat and then drove to an abandoned house, where he left the driver. He reportedly told the driver to "go inside and count to one thousand" before coming back out.

The driver was not injured and was able to seek help after emerging from the abandoned house.

The license plate on the taxi is CE97464. The cab number is 184.

If you know anything about this incident you're asked to call Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. You will remain anonymous.
