Two Cups Flour: The quest for the right recipe for a busy life

Two Cups Flour: Where have all the photos gone?

Posted: Updated:

It’s 6 p.m. on a school night and once again I am fiddling with the computer while dinner burns. This is because my daughter brought home one of those school “projects” that really means an assignment for mom and dad. The week before Spring Break.

Sure – I’ll just shoehorn that in… between Tae Kwon Do, dance, scouting, third grade book club, nightly math and reading homework, talent show practice … I’ve got plenty of time for this.

What makes this project particularly vexing? We need to provide photos of life events from the last seven years. I know that sounds simple enough – but that’s assuming we run an organized household with neatly catalogued photo albums that we can just pluck from at will. Ha.

I started out with albums, sorted by date and labeled. That morphed into photo boxes with stacks of pictures I’d upload for printing en masse. We devolved to just stuff thrown into shoe boxes, then finally complete capitulation with no printed photos whatsoever in the last few years.

I find myself with two choices, neither of them good:

One, I can run to Office Depot for ink. In our home, the printer never has a full cartridge when I need it. And, true to form, it’s out again.

Two, I can rummage through purses and drawers looking for a spare thumb drive so I can upload pictures, then drive to CVS and wait in line to print the pictures. To me, CVS is like Hotel California: “You can never leave…”

Hmm. I just thought of a third option. I could write on my daughter’s paper… “Sorry, MOM just didn’t have time for the project this week” and turn it in like that!

Sure, my daughter will scowl at me, but I’m sure it won’t be the last time.

What would you do?  And if you have any good ideas for digital photo management, I’d love to hear them.
