An alleged pickpocket got the surprise of his life when he approached one elderly man in Michigan.

And it was all caught on a nearby surveillance camera.

72-year-old Chet Dunham, a US veteran, was just finishing up breakfast, walking on Kercheval Street in Grosse Pointe Park when the incident happened.

In the surveillance video, you can see the suspect walking around an entry way.

When the alleged pickpocket sees Dunham open a door that's when he made his move for Dunham's wallet.

Dunham quickly showed his cane and whopped it around a bit to fend off the man.

The man then backed away and said he was "just kidding."

The elderly man walked into a nearby bank where employees called police.

Police say 23-year-old Jeffrey Jones was arrested and charged with attempted larceny.
