Chicago Marathon runners must sign up by noon Monday

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

If you plan on lacing up your sneakers and taking part in the 2014 Chicago Bank of America Marathon, you have to register by noon on Monday.

Getting your name on the list has been a pretty big headache the past couple of years. But supposedly that's all been worked out. FOX 32 News has the last-minute details you need to know.

The Chicago Marathon sign-up system crashed when it opened last year. This year, it didn't work and it took two weeks to fine-tune it.

It's been open since mid-March and registration ends Monday at noon. Runners have to get off the fence and make a decision now.

Runners will be angling for one of the lottery spots, if they don't qualify for a guaranteed spot in the Chicago Marathon. Guaranteed spots are for people running for a charity, time qualifiers and legacy runners who have completed five marathons in the last ten years.

Our city's marathon is so popular that race organizers have to limit the number of competitors to 45,000. Even at that number, racers say it's a crowded field.

The flat course, which starts and ends in Grant Park, takes runners through Chicago's neighborhoods. It's popular because runners have set personal bests and world records here.

Runners who get selected by the lottery will be notified on Monday, April 14. They will have to pay the $185 entry fee and continue training. Race Day is Oct. 12, 2014.
