DC Police seeking man who may have information on Relisha Rudd

WASHINGTON -

D.C. police have released video of a man they believe may have information in the case of missing 8-year-old Relisha Rudd.

The video shows the man walking off an escalator inside what appears to be a Metro station.

It is still unclear how the man in the video may have played a role in the missing girl's case, but police are asking for the public's help in identifying him.

The image is clear, showing an African-American man wearing a dark-colored hoodie, leather jacket, gloves and dark boots.

There is no timestamp on the video and police are not saying where and when it was recorded because it may negatively impact the investigation.

What is known is that Kahlil Tatum, the man suspected of abducting Relisha Rudd, was last captured on camera on March 19th and 20th outside the Red Roof Inn in Oxon Hill, Md., where detectives say he killed his wife.

Tatum was then driven by a friend to the Southern Avenue Metro station.

Could the person in the video be the man who drove him there or someone else investigators want to find?

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says there are two investigations going on in the case: one to find Relisha and another to discover what Tatum was doing with the little girl.

"If we find evidence of a crime committed by anybody else in the course of this investigation, they will be charged,” Lanier said. “We’re talking about an 8-year-old girl here and I can't overstate the fact we still have a very active investigation. And if we find evidence that anyone committed a crime in relation to Relisha going missing, we’re going to charge them.”

Two investigators with expertise in the sexual exploitation of children are examining an Apple iPad and six cell phones belonging to Tatum.

They are hoping to learn the truth behind the janitor’s motivations and the disappearance of the little girl.

If Tatum was truly just taking care of Relisha, why was he checking into hotel rooms with her when he had his own apartment?

D.C. police say Tatum killed himself inside an equipment shed on the grounds of Kenilworth Park in Northeast D.C.

He left nothing behind that would lead investigators to Relisha.

As for the man in the video, if you know who he is, you are asked to call D.C. police at 202-727-9099. You can also text your tip to their text tip line at 50411.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the location and return of Relisha Rudd. If you see her, call 911 immediately. You may also call the FBI at (800) CALL-FBI.
