Gray, Bowser meet for first time since election at Democratic unity breakfast

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON -- Mayor Vincent Gray and D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser met Friday for the first time since Bowser ‘s victory in the district’s Democratic primary election.

The two both attended a Democratic Party breakfast intended to promote party unity.

Following her victory, Bowser called for the party to come together ahead of the general election, in which she'll face independent Councilmember David Catania.

As of Thursday afternoon, Gray had yet to call Bowser to congratulate her and hadn't said whether he would support her in November. The two have long had a testy relationship. Bowser called on Gray to resign in 2012 following revelations of an illegal "shadow campaign" that helped him get elected in 2010.

The two joined hands and briefly spoke at the event on Friday.
