SPY RELEASE? - Is the Obama administration inching closer to granting notorious convicted spy Jonathan Pollard an early release to kick start Mideast peace talks? Pollard, a former U.S. Navy analyst in Suitland, Maryland is serving a life sentence after being convicted 30 years ago for selling classified military documents to the Israeli government. The Israeli government paid Pollard $45,000 for the documents, reimbursed him for trips to Europe and Israel, and lavished expensive jewelry on his wife. The Pollards sought asylum at the Israeli embassy in DC before their arrest. U.S. military and intelligence officials have strongly opposed Pollard's release.

MINIMUM WAGE FIGHT - 12:00 If you thought the effort to raise the national minimum wage was fading away think again. Today Maryland US Sen. Barbara Mikulski Will be joined by fellow Democratic Senators Reid and Harkin to announce the new push to raise minumum wage to $10.10. Republicans argue strongly that the idea would be disastrous for small businesses, many of which are still recovering from the recession and now struggling to cope with the new mandates imposed by President Obama's Affordable Healthcare Act. Reid &Mikulski could get a bill to the Senate floor, but the Republican controlled House could sink it.

MARYLAND SNOW DAYS - So exactly how long is school going to go this years? Maryland Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery has denied a waiver request that would have allowed Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) to go below the 180 days of instruction required by state law. In a letter sent out to parents last night the School District said they'd been told Dr. Lowery said she would consider a modified request if MCPS agreed to make up more of the instructional time that was lost this school year due to inclement weather. MCPS has closed school 10 times

CELL PHONE KILL SWITCHES - So how do you stop the never ending practice of cell phone thefts? You kill the phone. A new study from Creighton University, says Americans annually spend $4.8 billion on cellphone insurance and $580 million on replacing phones that they have lost. The Creighton study estimated that consumers could save $2.6 billion a year if they phones had "kill switches" installed. The rationale behind having a "kill switch" is that if a smartphone can be killed after it is stolen, there will be no incentives for thieves to steal them, keeping consumers safe and saving them some money in the bargain.
