Man robbed in Detroit by men impersonating federal agents

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Police are searching for two suspects impersonating federal agents.

They robbed a 28-year-old male just before midnight in the area of Woodward Avenue and West Canfield Street.

The suspects were driving a black Ford F150 with red, flashing lights. They pulled the victim over and robbed him of his cash, according to police. Then they fled southbound on Woodward. The victim was not injured.

The first suspect is described as a white male in his mid-30s. Police say he is about 6 feet tall, weighs 190 pounds and is bald. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, dark pants and a bulletproof vest.

The second suspect is described as a black male in his 40s. Police say he is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 205 pounds. He was last seen also wearing a plaid shirt, dark pants and a bulletproof vest. He possibly had a gun.

Experts say if someone claims to be a federal agent or police, ask for credentials.

Also, the federal law enforcement officers do not have peace officer status in Michigan, so you won't find them out patrolling. A federal law enforcement officer conducting a traffic stop is also extremely rare.

Call 911 if you think you're being pulled over by someone who is not of legitimate law enforcement. If you don't know for sure, drive to a well-lit, well-populated area or a police station.
