Gina's People

Team Am-Vets

Posted: Updated:

Team Am-Vets has been around for more than 50 years helping veterans and their families. Now they have a new program called 'Welcome Home'.  It's the focus of this week's Gina's People.

Since the program started last November, more than 750 people have been assisted. Jesus Ramon Perez of Los Angeles is one of them. He is a Navy Veteran who was homeless for nearly a year after he lost his job. Thanks to Team AmVets, he was able to secure a house with all the furnishings.  Fox 11 News was there when Team AmVets showed up with a truck filled with furniture.  Perez had this to say, "I'm excited! I can not put it into words. This means a lot to me and it means a lot to my family. It's unexplainable."

The Welcome Home Program gets donated used furniture and gives it to veterans who need it.  Over two million California Veterans and their families need help in one way or another.  If you would like to support this cause, go to their website: www.teamamvets.com And if you have a suggestion for a Gina's People segment, send us an email.

Baby Scarlette Tipton was born five months ago with an abnormally large, left arm. It measures approximately three times the size of her right arm. Doctors say this is an extremely rare condition. Doctors have given Scarlette's parents different diagnosis, the latest is Undifferentiated Sarcoma, a very rare childhood cancer.
