Today is Thursday, March 27, the 86th day of 2014. There are 279 days left in the year.
MARYLAND OBAMACARE LINES - As the March 31st deadline to sign on for Maryland's Healthcare Exchange for the Affordable Healthcare Act long lines are being reported at centers helping people sign up. Folks have been queued up before dawn and faced waits that went on for hours at Montgomery County's Department of Health and Human Services in Silver Spring center. It's one of the area busiest enrollment operations centers. The applicants are looking for help with the state’s Internet marketplace which has been the subject of investigations by legislative committees for its poor operation since it's October launch.
PRESIDENT AND POPE - Will President Obama's meeting with Pope Francis mean we'll soon be getting word of a Papal visit to Washington in 2015? The President and Francis were supposed to talk for only a half hour at the Vatican this morning. The meeting lasted almost an hour. A papal visit would be a big undertaking for DC, and it's already known Francis will visit a Youth Conference in Philadelphia next year. Pope Benedict was the last Pope to visit DC bringing massive crowds, a mass at Nationals Park, but constant questions over the Churches position on its child abuse by priests.
?VIRGINIA SENATE POLL - If Republican Ed Gillespie wants to unseat Democratic Senator Mark Warner he's got a lot of ground to make up. Virginia, considered a swing state, is swinging blue for Sen. Mark Warner in his reelection drive this year according to a new Quinnipiac University poll out this morning. Sen. Warner tops former White House aide Gillespie a GOP challenger, 46 – 31% with 6%for Libertarian Robert Sarvis, the Independent candidate. The Senate race also is important for the 2016 Presidential race because Democrats won Virginia in 2008 and 2012.
HEALTHCARE.GOV GLITCHES PART II - Even as the Obama administration struggles to deal with the approaching end of open enrollment for health care exchanges, one critical part of the website has yet to be fixed. The White House had predicted ObamaCare could be seriously jeopardized if the key back end of healthcare.gov were not fixed ahead of the March 31 enrollment deadline. The back end of the website is the two-way connection between the government and insurance companies aimed at telling each other who signed up for what. One analyst calls it a "major nightmare,"
