Ramsey County deputy charged with drunk driving

Posted: Updated:

He's supposed to enforce the law, but a Ramsey County sheriff's deputy is accused of breaking it by getting behind of the wheel of his truck even though his blood-alcohol content was three times the legal limit.

According to the criminal complaint, Deputy Glen Pothen's BAC was .28 when a driver with three children in the car complained they were nearly hit by a truck on March 8 in Isanti County.

Pothen is now facing charges of third- and fourth-degree drunk driving.

Pothen, or at least video of him, has been in the news before. In 2006, a truck slammed into him on Interstate 694. Remarkably, he wasn't hurt beyond a bit of road rash.

Pothen has been reassigned to non-patrol duties, which is standard procedure. A spokesperson for the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office told Fox 9 News internal affairs will monitor his criminal proceedings before making a decision on his employment.
