Girl, 14, accidentally shot by boy, 14, in Englewood

A 14-year-old boy was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after he accidentally shot a 14-year-old girl Wednesday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

The boy was apparently playing with a handgun when he accidentally shot the girl about 8:10 p.m. in the 6500 block of South Green Street, police said. It was not immediately known where the boy got the gun.

The girl was shot in one thigh, and the bullet travelled through into her other thigh, police said.

She was taken the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital, where she was listed in "stable" condition, police said.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, police said.

The boy faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a handgun, police said.
