Student Arrested For E-Mails Of School 'Hit List'

Santa Ana, CA -

(FOX 11 / CNS) A 16-year-old sophomore at a Santa Ana high school was arrested for allegedly sending emails to his ex-girlfriend that claimed he had a "hit list'' of people he was going to shoot on the school's campus, authorities said today.

The principal of NOVA Academy Early College High School notified Santa Ana police about the threats around 7 p.m. Monday, police said.

The student, whose name was not released because of his age, allegedly told his ex-girlfriend he was going to recruit other students to help him carry out the shooting, police said. He made no threats against his ex-girlfriend, but complained that he "was tired of being bullied,'' according to police.

Police said investigators talked to the sophomore, who allegedly provided names of the students he planned to kill. The youth was taken to juvenile hall.

According to the school's executive director, an armed guard will be at the campus from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day this week, and continuing through April 11, the beginning of spring break.
