Truck torched in Brownstown after Craigslist confrontation

BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Michael Witz woke up to find his truck on fire in his driveway. He says he knows the people that did it - and so do Brownstown police - but they have taken no action.

Witz says he bought rims and tires on Craigslist and, a two days after mounting them, was stopped by a man who claimed the rims belonged to him. The man said the rims were stolen out of his yard.

Witz asked the man to show proof of ownership and even offered to go to the police station. The man had no proof and did not want to go to the police, and Witz says the man told him there would be "repercussions."

Witz believes the man followed him home so they could eventually torch his truck.

Witz obtained video from his neighborhood that he believes shows two suspects hopping in a getaway car and driving off after setting his truck on fire. Witz says police told him they received a confession from two people, but have not arrested anyone.

Witz says what he wants most is his truck to be replaced.

FOX 2 has put a call into police inquiring where the investigation stands.

    48-year-old Keith Andersen retired in February from the Grosse Pointe Police Department. On June 21, he was involved in a roll over accident where he suffered a broken neck. As of now Keith has no movement in his the lower half of his body. The Fraternal Order of Police, Grosse Pointe Lodge 102 is holding a fundraiser for Keith on Aug 5th.
