An Alexandria elementary school will be closed on Friday due to what is believed to be a norovirus outbreak at the school.
School officials say nearly 200 students and more than 30 staff members have reported having a stomach illness in the past two days.
The school will be cleaned and disinfected through the weekend to stop the spread of the illness.
A letter was sent home to parents on Wednesday to inform them of the illness that had been reported by a small group of students.
Alexandria City Public Schools is working with the Alexandria Health Department to prevent the spread of the illness.
The school is expected to reopen on Monday.
