Newly retired Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, the greatest closer of all time, will soon have another accolade to add to his collection of awards and trophies: an honorary doctorate.

New York University announced it will present the native Panamanian and Westchester resident with a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. And he'll receive the honor in his old "home": Yankee Stadium, which will host NYU's commencement ceremonies on May 21, 2014.

Rivera retired in 2013 after 19 seasons with the Yankees in which he notched 652 saves, 1173 strikeouts and a 2.21 ERA. He was a 13-time All-Star and five-time World Series champion.

NYU will also present honorary degrees to native New Yorker Elena Kagan, an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court; soul legend Aretha Franklin; Martin Edelman, an international real estate and corporate attorney; and Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, the first woman to serve in that post. Yellen will also address the graduates.
