COLLEGE PARK, Md. -

Zach Lederer, a former University of Maryland men’s basketball manager who gained national attention in his battle against brain cancer with his “Zaching” pose, passed away on Tuesday.

Lederer was a team manager for the Terps basketball team during the 2011-12 season. The 20-year-old was an inspiration to others after a picture of him flexing his biceps in a hospital bed after his January 2012 surgery went viral on social media and the internet.

“Zaching” became such a phenomenon that University of Maryland coaches, athletes as well as politicians and celebrities across the country showed support for Lederer against his cancer fight by posting similar pictures of the flexing pose.
