AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A west suburban man facing a litany of charges for allegedly being intoxicated when he caused a crash that left five people injured Monday night in Aurora was ordered held on a $35,000 bond Thursday.

Roy R. Lightfoot, 39, faces six felony counts of DUI and several misdemeanors including driving on a revoked license, operating an uninsured vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed, according to Aurora police.

He was ordered held on a $35,000 bond Thursday, according to Kane County prosecutors.

Lightfoot was driving a 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood eastbound on Illinois Avenue in Aurora about 8:20 p.m. Monday when he rear-ended a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 that was stopped for the light at Lake Street (Route 31), police said.

He then continued eastbound, going through the red light, until the car jumped the concrete median and hit a westbound 2009 Chevrolet Aveo head-on, police said.

The driver of the Aveo, a 37-year-old Montgomery woman, and three children inside — boys 7 and 11, and an 11-year-old girl — were hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the S-10 was not injured, police said.

Lightfoot was also hospitalized after the crash with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The Illinois Avenue Bridge was closed for about three hours for investigation.

Lightfoot, of the 500 block of Hammond Avenue in Aurora, is next scheduled to appear at the Kane County Judicial Center on March 20.
