Main Line Burglaries: Only A Little Loot, But Lots Of Damage

RADNOR TWP., Pa. -

Radnor Police are following leads after several businesses were hit by burglars.

At AJ's Pizza Shop in Wayne they've been putting in a lot of hours after their grand opening last month. The last thing they needed was a break in, but around 1:30 Friday morning AJ's and several other stores were broken into and robbed.

"We say we're in Wayne, nice area, wouldn't expect that one you know," said manager Alex Sanchez.

"Basically they're ripping the doors almost off their hinges to get in," Radnor Detective Chris Four told FOX 29.

Surveillance video shows the burglars as they went to work on the back doors of five businesses at the Strafford Shopping Center on Lancaster Avenue. Police believe the burglars used a pry bar to crack open the rear doors. At AJ's, they left behind several new flat screen TVs and computers. All they got was a few bucks.

"They caused more damage and more monetary loss for business owners in that the doors have to be repaired," Lt. Andrew Block said.

"It's an extra expense, just replacing the doors for everybody, gonna be a couple thousand dollars for each one," Sanchez said.

Police have video of the suspects and a getaway vehicle from a set of nearby surveillance cameras. They also found a set of foot prints. They're now tracking down more surveillance video and leads in the case.

"It's scary, in the suburbs here we don't think that will happen, especially with the Radnor cops, they're very good cops, they patrol here very frequently," said Erwin Jansen at Jake's Wayback Burgers.

Jansen thinks his inside surveillance cameras probably scared the burglars off.

"That may have been the deterrent, but I'm thinking of putting a camera in the back there too," Jansen added.

Police believe the burglars could have been on site for almost 40 minutes. They made off with around $20 from the pizza shop. They could not find the cash at the other stores. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video from another shop, hoping to get a good look at one of the burglars.

Anyone with information should call Radnor Police at 610-688-0500.
