Today is Friday, March 7, the 66th day of 2014. There are 299 days left in the year.

MILITARY SEX ASSAULT REFORM - The effort to remake how the military prosecutes sexual assaults Is facing a major setback. The Senate has voted 55-45 to leave the authority to prosecute rapes and other serious crimes with military commanders. Supporters of the Chang wanted civilian oversight because of what they saw as a conflict of interest: victims have to report assaults to their commanders, even though the assault could reflect badly on that commanders troops. Some say it creates an environment that plays down assaults or ignores them all together. The Pentagon has fought major changes because they say it would break the "chain of command"

CPAC AT NATIONAL HARBOR - So what exactly does it mean to be a "Republican" in 2014? There is a big struggle for the hearts and minds of the Republican Party being played out just 5 minutes south of DC. Friday marks the second day of the Conservative Political Action Conference "CPAC" which brings thousands of conservative activists to National Harbor in Oxon Hill Maryland each year to put their stamp on the Republican Party. But after back to back Presidential losses with Republican nominees many CPAC members found too moderate (McCain & Romney) members are determined to push a hardline conservative to the ticket in 2016

OBAMA COLLEGE LOANS - 2:30 pm The Department if Education says more than 1 million high school seniors annually do not file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or "FAFSA". Today President Obama & the First Lady travel to Coral Reef High School in Miami, Florida. The couple will announce a new effort to help students complete the form. K STREET EYEING RUSSIA - One of the big differences between the US and Russia since the end of the Cold War is the amount of business the two countries do with each other. The US Russia Business Council in DC is a major facilitator of bringing Russian and American companies together. But as The White House is beginning to roll out economic sanctions against the Russian Government for its invasion of Crimea, the councils offices are being flooded with concerned calls from businesses concerned the economic pipeline to Russia could be shut off.
