Freezing rain, sleet may affect Friday morning commute

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for some areas of the D.C. area for possible freezing rain and sleet during Friday morning’s commute.

The advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service says freezing drizzle will start during the morning commute with sleet and freezing rain arriving after 9 a.m. Accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch of ice may occur.

Drivers are advised to take caution as the weather may cause some roads to become icy and slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.

However, the good news is the weather is expected to warm up starting Saturday. Temperatures will be rising into the 50s this weekend and may even reach the 60s by Tuesday.
