ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

Thursday will mark one month since an Alexandria music teacher was murdered in her home. A gunman shot Ruthanne Lodato to death at her front door on Ridge Road Drive. Police have received hundreds of tips, but still haven't made an arrest.

Alexandria police will hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to update the community on where the investigation stands and provide some new details.

One month after Lodato was gunned down simply answering her door, Alexandria police still stand guard in her typically quiet neighborhood. A small memorial still sits on the wall around her home. And just a few blocks away, the composite picture of the suspect wanted in this shocking murder case remains pinned to a community board.

“It's on people's minds,” said Del Ray resident Connie Mackay. “It’s a small community and close knit, so we definitely are waiting and watching and hoping for a conclusion.”

Police say in the last four weeks, they have followed up on more than 500 tips -- with some assistance from the FBI. But they don't want that number to deter people from continuing to offer information.

“No amount of information is too small,” said Crystal Nosal of the Alexandria Police Department. “We investigate every tip we receive no matter how innocuous it may seem at the time it’s given to us.”

Police won't say what progress they have made in their hunt for this murder suspect, but they say the search for him remains a top priority.

“I’ve been asked before if we feel like we are closer to a resolution,” said Nosal. “I think every day is closer. We still get tips. We have the composite [sketch] that we released. Everything brings us one step closer to solving this murder.”

Meanwhile, friends of the popular music teacher and choir organist say they have spent the last four weeks searching for ways to keep her memory alive.

“Out of something bad, you try to find the good, which is always very difficult, but that is why we came up with this nomination for Ruthanne,” said Lori DiCesare.

On Tuesday, DiCesare submitted Lodato's name into consideration for two awards from the Alexandria Commission for Women.

“Ruthanne gave and gave and gave, and we thought this would certainly honor her and her family that is grieving,” DiCesare said. “Because she helped so many young girls and young women achieve what their goals are and gave them confidence [and] that it would be a wonderful thing to do for her.”

Lodato's family tell FOX 5 they certainly appreciate everyone's interest in this case and all the beautiful tributes to her.
