PHOENIX -

A Phoenix Police Officer who was shot while trying to arrest a suspect with a felony warrant is out of the hospital. Detective A.J. Casados was one of two officers shot Monday afternoon near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road.

Casados survived the shooting but his partner Detective John Hobbs was killed.

Det. Casados is back home with his wife and kids Wednesday evening but his partner, John Hobbs, isnt coming home. The memorial at 43rd Ave & Bethany Home for Hobbs continues to grow as members of the community come to honor the fallen detective.

Casados was released from St. Joseph's hospital Wednesday morning. He and his partner Det. John Hobbs were both shot while chasing an armed suspect.

"He is an outstanding police officer and we are honored to have him with us still," said Phoenix Police Chief Daniel Garcia.

Casados was shot once on his right side during the incident. He's 37 years old and has been an officer with the Phoenix Police Department for the past 9 years. Casados quickly rose thru the ranks to become a detective in the major offender bureau apprehending violent felons.

"Thats a quick position from patrol to kind of assignment gives you an idea of the caliber of detective that he is," said Chief Garcia.

Phoenix Police say things could have been worse for Casados if it wasn't for the actions of his partner, John Hobbs, and another police detective who shot and killed the suspect.

Casado has yet to speak with Phoenix Police investigators.
