Montgomery County woman goes to great lengths to find missing dog

BETHESDA, Md. -

A four-year-old mixed breed dog has been missing since November 9 and his owner is spending hour on end and $15,000 to try to get him back.

His name is Havoc and Janet Mihalyfi says she allowed him off his leash to get a drink of water, and he and his sister, Raze, chased after a deer. Havoc ran through a hole in the fence surrounding the Dalecarlia Reservoir and never came back.

Mihalyfi has hired K9 scent trackers and pet psychics to help in her search. She has placed critter feeders and cameras in people's yards and posted Lost Dog signs with his picture up and down Massachusetts Avenue, around Westmoreland Circle, all throughout the neighborhood.

Some people apparently are upset about the signage and have started snatching some of the signs down. But Mihalyfi says she gets most of her calls about sightings from people who have seen her signs, so she plans to keep posting them.

She says she has been in touch with six government agencies, including police and park officials, who say she is within her rights to post them.

Dozens of supporters and volunteers are helping in her mission. She says there have been a number of confirmed sightings, including one last week, and that gives her hope.
