Police investigate homicide after man found dead in Silver Spring driveway

Posted: Updated:

Police in Montgomery County are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead in a driveway in Silver Spring.

Police say there were quite a few people inside the home in the 15000 block of Laughlin Lane when officers first arrived at around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Police spent all night inside the house. It is a crime scene so challenging, investigators brought in multiple evidence technicians along with the command bus.

"There was some evidence that’s outside, including the deceased person, as well as other items of evidence,” said Montgomery County Police Captain Paul Starks. “The weather is also making it just a little bit harder.”

More than 15 hours later, officers left the house carrying large cardboard boxes, bags, and also what appeared to be a significantly heavy item.

Earlier in the day around dawn, police put a sedan on a flat-bed truck and towed it away.

On the rear passenger door, there appeared to be blood.

"The responding units arrived, found a male who was deceased in the driveway,” said Capt. Starks. “Later on, we learned that another adult male had been taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. He’s being treated there now. When he’s able to, we want to speak with him to see what he knows.”

Real estate records show the home was sold a few years ago for just under $800,000. But neighbors, who declined to go on camera, say the house was leased to new tenants as recently as a month ago.

None of them reported any trouble or suspicious activity.

"There are many motives and circumstances that investigators are looking at,” Starks said. “We’re not ready to specify what it might be at this time.”
