Residents in Lovettsville, Virginia are being asked to boil their water. Officials say water service in the city was interrupted for a short time Saturday, and that caused customers to have reduced or total loss of water pressure.
Because the distribution system has safeguards to minimize chances of water contamination when pressure drops, and they have maintained disinfectant in the system, officials believe that water continues to meet public health standards. However, through an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Virginia Department of Health, the town is issuing a Precautionary Boil Water Notice.
Operations staff has collected water samples and additional samples will be taken on Sunday. The town will remove the Precautionary Boil Water Notice on Monday pending sample results.
The town will provide an update Monday once the bacteriological sampling results are received.
