SEAT PLEASANT, Md. -

Prince George’s County police say an officer investigating a report of a shooting in a Seat Pleasant neighborhood discharged his weapon Friday evening. The officer did not hit anyone, but the incident led the officer to a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say the patrol officer responded to Hill Oaks Road and when he arrived on the street, he saw a white Mitsubishi Galant traveling at a high rate of speed and pulled of the vehicle over.

Police say the driver got out of the vehicle acting very unusual and was holding something in his hand. Perceiving danger, the officer fired his weapon. The driver was not struck.

Upon further investigation, the officer found the passenger in the car suffering from a gunshot wound, unrelated to the officer's shooting. The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the shooting and working to identify the circumstances which led to the shooting and suspects involved.
