DC to start monthlong campaign to repair potholes

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The District of Columbia is preparing to begin its annual "Potholepalooza" campaign to repair roads throughout the city.

Officials said Wednesday that their monthlong effort will begin March 20. During the campaign, the District Department of Transportation will work to repair identified potholes within 48 hours instead of its normal response time of 72 hours.

Residents and commuters can go online, tweet, email or call to report a pothole. The city says that because of this year's exceptionally cold winter, transportation crews have already filled more than 9,000 potholes, more than double the number for January and February last year.

The District of Columbia held its first Potholepalooza campaign in 2009 during which transportation crews filled more than 6,000 potholes.
