Fire officials: Man dead after South Chicago fire

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man died early Friday following a fire in the South Chicago neighborhood on the South Side, fire officials said.

The man was found dead after a fire at a house in the 8300 block of South Baker Avenue about 6 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department Media Affairs.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said a person was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire at 6:41 a.m., but could not immediately confirm a name, age or gender for the victim Friday night.

Firefighters passed out fire safety items in the area near the house later Friday afternoon, according to Fire Media Affairs.
