Md. family's loss of loved one compounded by theft of his music equipment

From the time he was just a little boy, Aaron Reed loved to make music.

"Aaron's passion was music. He loved to listen to it. He loved to play it," says, Aaron's father, Brian Reed.

At home in Columbia, MD, his mom and dad were always stumbling across bits of songs he'd written.

"We used to find them all over the house folded up into squares," remembers Mr. Reed.

"Aaron was completely different from me. I'm an engineer. If you're at A and you want to get to B, you draw a straight line. Aaron would take a serendipitous path. Right now, I'm a better person because I'm going to start being more like Aaron. Enjoy the journey", asserts Mr. Reed.

Aaron's journey ended much too soon.

He had moved to Buffalo, New York and returned home from work on January 26th. sometime during the night, Aaron died unexpectedly. Aaron was just 21 years old. He did have a minor heart condition but his cause of death remains unknown.

His devastated dad drove to New York to pick up Aaron's things.

He then drove back to Columbia through a snowstorm.  When he got home he locked the family van but the next morning Mr. Reed discovered everything was gone.

Mr. Reed recalls, "actually, I couldn't even catch my breath."

Among the items stolen was the acoustic guitar that Aaron had played for years and his prized Fender Stratocaster.

The family is devastated. The items were an extension of their son and now it is gone.

His father pleads that someone returns the items to the family," just bring it back. No charges. No questions asked"

Meanwhile Aaron's parents and sister are creating a nonprofit called the pick me up foundation, which was t the name of a song Aaron was working on when he died.

Aaron's father explains, "the goal or the mission of the foundation is to provide resources to underprivileged kids to give them a chance to play music."

A chance Aaron was so grateful to have even if only for a little while
