Victim In Hunting Park Attempted Abduction Speaks To Fox 29

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

A father and daughter spoke to FOX 29's Dave Schratwieser after a terrifying ordeal outside of their home .

Donald Chavis's daughter was walking home from the corner store yesterday on Albanus street in Hunting Park when a man told her to "come here" and then he grabbed her arm.

The 10year old girl screamed in terror and was able to break away from the offender and run to the back of the store.

The neighbors heard the victim's cry for help and ran to the store and held the offender there until  the police arrived.

The neighbors told Dave Schratwieser "we just kept holding him. We made him lay on the ground. He was still trying to get away."

Police arrested and charged Jose Ferreira, 24 year old male West Albanus Street with attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, and other related offenses.

The neighborhood is really shaken up after the attempted kidnapping.

"It really hurts because this shouldn't happen, you would never think it would happen in your neighborhood."

Donald Chavis and his daughter are simply happy and grateful that she is home and safe.

"I just want to say thank you that they helped me," says the victim.

"Everybody pulled together that night, it felt real good to see the neighbors come out and help and look after my baby," Donald Chavis said.
