A suspected bank robber in Laurel should have quit when he had the chance.

Laurel police arrested and charged Robert Williams with a robbery at a PNC Bank in the 300 block of Main Street Wednesday morning.

Police say surveillance video inside the bank shows Williams carrying the stolen cash, but as he tries to leave, he drops some of the money on the floor. He decides to grab a nearby umbrella and places the cash into it.

Williams leaves the bank and drives off in a green minivan. Howard County police used stop sticks to flatten the vehicle’s tires.

Police say Williams exited the vehicle and tried to run, but then slipped on some ice and cut his head.

Police recovered a backpack containing the stolen $20,650 in the vehicle.

In addition to the robbery charge, Williams was also charged with numerous traffic offenses.
