Today is Wednesday, Feb. 19, the 50th day of 2014. There are 315 days left in the year.

MARYLAND HEALTHCARE SITE - On the third day of inquiry, Maryland Health Exchange Officials this morning say they are looking into the case of a Greenbelt Maryland man whose been caught in a Catch 22 in getting health insurance. For 3 months he's been trying to log onto the site but his password won't work. In an email, state officials this morning confirmed that contrary to what Jim Davis was told on the phone yesterday, he is qualified for a policy. In a email this morning Exchange officials say Davis has been approved for a qualified health plan with tax credit of $445/month and cost sharing at 94% and should log into his account to select a plan. Problem is though, Jim's password still doesn't work.

VIRGINIA CORRUPTION HOTLINE - Know a crooked politician on the take? If so the FBI wants you to drop a dime on 'em.   The FBI's Washington Field Office is seeking the public’s help to expose public corruption in Northern Virginia.  They say they're launching a new effort to find exchanges for money, or other free goods or services, for private gain.  Public corruption could also include public employees who take something of value for their own personal gain, thereby violating the public’s trust.  The FBI has even set up a special hotline in hopes of getting tips at 703-686-6225

KIEV BURNS - As Russia tries to keep focus on the Olympic Games in Sochi, a former Soviet Republic is now engulfed in violence over Russia's political influence.  Fires and black smoke rise from  barricades in Kiev this morning. Ukrainian riot police and protester clashes have left at least 25 people dead and 241 injured. At issue is Ukraine's accepting Russian financial bailout. Protesters are angry over Russia's remerging power over independent Ukraine which split off after the Iron Curtain fell.

WAGE HIKE JOB LOSS - Remember how Democrats dismissed Republican objections to raising the minimum wage? The GOP, Democrats argued was just being obstructionist and that a hike hike wouldn't affect hiring.  Well a non partisan report out this morning is throwing cold water on the Democrats argument. The impartial Congressional Budget Office report out now concluded that a gradual increase to $10.10 would reduce jobs in 2016 by roughly 500,000, or 0.3 percent. Republicans have seized the finding as prove the wage hike would further hurt sluggish gains in a still recovering economy.

Today's History:
In 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, clearing the way for the U.S. military to relocate and intern Japanese-Americans during World War II.

In 1945, some 30,000 U.S. Marines began landing on Iwo Jima, where they began a successful month-long battle to seize control of the island from Japanese forces.

In 2008, an ailing Fidel Castro resigned the Cuban presidency after nearly a half-century in power; his brother Raul was later named to succeed him.
