STERLING, Va. -

A serial armed robber is targeting women in Loudoun County, but he isn't just demanding their money. Authorities say he is also making them take off some of their clothing.

It has happened at least four times since December in neighborhoods in Sterling, Va.

The most recent case was on Valentine’s Day.

Loudoun County Sheriff's detectives have released a composite sketch of the suspect.

So far, he hasn't physically harmed any of the known victims, but there is fear he could.

In the most recent robbery at the Stanford Square apartments in Sterling, a woman told police she had just walked back to her apartment when a man with a gun approached her at her door. She says he demanded money and told her to take off her jacket. She screamed and he ran away. Angie Collins just moved into the complex. She says she is now scared.

"I come home late at night,” she says. “I work in an emergency room so I don't get home till 11:30 [p.m.]. I'm constantly walking in the middle of the night to my apartment, so it’s scary."

Police say a similar armed robbery at the same location was reported just days before on February 9. Police searched for the suspect, but found nothing.

The victim was able to help police come up with a composite sketch of the suspect that is now being circulated.

Stanford Square is just steps from the busy Dulles Town Center. Residents are unnerved that the crime is happening in such a populated area.

"I'm not just going to be like, 'Oh, he's targeting women' and not worry about it,” Gene Davis says. “Just stay vigilant, aware of your surroundings."

Loudoun County Sheriff’s investigators say the suspect hasn't left any of the victims exposed. They say he has only made them take off an article of clothing. They believe he is doing it to give himself enough time to start going through their things.

Authorities say the two cases could be related to two other armed robbery cases in December involving female victims. One happened in the 46500 block of Lynnhaven Square around 6:15 a.m. on December 29. The other was an attempted robbery in the 10200 block of McKean Court later that same day.

The suspect in the latter two incidents was described as a light-skinned black male, approximately 5'8" tall, with a medium build in his mid-to-late 20s. He was wearing a dark hoodie that was concealing his face, and was possibly driving a small burgundy or red-colored vehicle.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is working with other agencies in the area to determine if any other similar cases have been reported.
