Kid driving stolen van hits a police car during chase

Posted: Updated:
Virginia State Police say a 15 year old boy driving a stolen van hit a police car on I-95 this morning.

From VA State Police:

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 16), Virginia State Police attempted to stop a white Dodge multi-passenger van on Interstate 95 at the 119 mile marker at the Caroline County/Spotsylvania County line. The van was traveling north on I-95 at a high rate of speed and had been involved in a hit-and-run at the 104 mile marker in Caroline County. Troopers had received a “Be on the Lookout” for the van after the incident at the 104 mile marker and were searching for the vehicle when it was spotted at the 119 mile marker. When the trooper attempted to stop the van, the suspect vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
As the van continued north on I-95, it tried to ram a trooper’s vehicle, causing the trooper’s vehicle to run off the road and strike the guardrail. At the 128 mile marker, it rammed a second trooper’s vehicle. The driver of the suspect vehicle then lost control and the van overturned in the highway.
The 15-year-old male driver of the white van was transported to Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Further investigation revealed that the van was reported stolen earlier Sunday morning in Chesterfield County.
No troopers were injured in the pursuit.
Charges are pending at this time. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
The left and center lanes of I-95 north were re-opened by 10:30 a.m.
