Another snow storm blankets tristate region

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A storm moving through the Ohio Valley brought even more snow to the tristate area Saturday.

The east end of Long Island was hammered in Saturday's storm. By 10 p.m. Saturday East Hampton recorded 7.5 inches. Orient had 7 and Southampton 6.5 inches.

The rest of the area saw lesser amounts. In Nassau County, Greenvale saw 3 inches of new snow. In Monroe, in Orange County, 3.8 inches fell on Saturday. In Westchester, Armonk reported 1.8 inches of fresh now.

In New Jersey, Newark Airport got 2.7 inches of new snow. West Milford in Passaic County registered 3 inches.

The NYC Sanitation Department had issued a "snow alert" for Saturday. That means the department prepared equipment, including loading up salt spreaders, attaching plows, preparing tire chains, and notifying supplementary staff to be ready if needed.

Alternate side of the street rules are not in effect on Sunday and were suspended for Monday due to the holiday.

New England was expected to be hit hardest by the latest blast of winter weather. The National Weather Service called for 10 to 14 inches of snow in eastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island.

At Boston's Logan International Airport, some airlines canceled flights ahead of Saturday night's storm and delays were expected.

Eight to 10 inches was to fall in Connecticut along its Rhode Island border.

At its peak, the storm was expected to dump snow at the rate of 3 inches per hour, according to meteorologist William Babcock.

The weekend snowstorm comes on the heels of an earlier storm that blanketed the East Coast with snow and ice, caused at least 25 deaths and left hundreds of thousands without power. Parts of New York and Vermont ended up with more than 2 feet of snow.
