High School Student Suspended After Defending A Friend

Posted: Updated:

A controversial suspension has students at a Texas high school up in arms.

It all started at Bryan Rudder High School's lunch hour on Monday.

Senior Christian Tumax says he heard his friend, who has special needs, yelling from behind him.

That's when he went up to the three guys harassing his friend and told them to be quiet.

After a fiery exchange, Tumax was sent to speak with school officials, and was later suspended.

But Tumax says he wouldn't change a thing about the way he acted to defend his friend.

"the way I see it, you sometimes have to decide whether or not you want to make a change in the world. It doesn't matter how young or old you are", says Tumax.

"So I turned around and saw he was being harassed by three guys. I told the guys to be quiet and leave him alone."

"They had to base it off what they saw in the cameras. In the cameras, they saw me go forward, and that's the reason I got suspended," Tumax continues.

"Sometimes, you have to stand up for what's right. Even if you're scared," Tumax says.

School officials say their decision is confidential and cannot legally comment on the situation.
