CHICAGO (AP) - DePaul University's new Theatre School building has become the first performing arts facility in Chicago to receive LEED Gold certification.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and Gold status is the second best out of four categories. The designation comes from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The council's executive director, Brian Imus, says the Theatre School is a "role model for sustainability."

The building has a green roof that reduces storm water runoff as well as insulating the structure.

Recycled materials were used in its construction, and its heating and cooling systems are energy efficient.

It's the fourth building at DePaul to be awarded LEED certification.
