Worker operating salt spreader struck and killed on Virginia roadway

A Virginia Department of Transportation contract worker who was operating a salt spreader was killed Thursday when he was struck by a second VDOT truck along a Virginia roadway.

The worker had pulled his truck off onto the shoulder near Belmont Ridge Road at the intersection of Chesterton Street in Ashburn, Va.. shortly before 6:00 a.m. The worker was standing near the rear of the vehicle when he was struck by a second VDOT truck.

The man who was struck was transported to Loudoun Hospital Center were he later died.

The driver of the second dump truck was not injured in the crash.

Police are still investigating.
