OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. -

How is this for unique way to say "stay of the roads"? The Oconee County Sheriff's Office has "cancelled" Valentine's Day this year.

In a post on their Facebook page, the Oconee County Sheriff's Office has declared a "NO VALENTINES DAY ZONE" from Interstate 16 north to the Georgia border. They state it is a stay for men from having to go run out and buy lottery tickets and candy until February 18th.

While the post is amusing, there is a bit of truth behind it after ice and snow moved through Georgia this week leaving roadways slick with ice. State and local officials have been repeating the same warning about staying off the road, but this one might be the most unique.

The post might also be a bit of a conduit to blow off steam as many law enforcement and emergency service workers worked overtime to make sure the public stayed safe.

Inquiries into the Oconee County Sheriff's Office were not immediately returned.
