Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia officials plan to declare a snow emergency ahead of the approaching storm.

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray says the snow emergency will be declared at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes will be ticketed and towed. According to the District Department of Transportation website there's a $250 fine for parking on a snow emergency route during a declared emergency, plus a $100 towing fee as well as impound fees.

The last time the city declared a snow emergency was 2010.
