DC man suffers fractured skull in violent weekend robbery

WASHINGTON -

A D.C. man is recovering from a vicious beating and violent robbery after a gunman pistol-whipped him, leaving him with a fractured skull.

It happened over the weekend in the 500 block of U Street of the LeDroit Park section of Northwest D.C., just around the corner from Howard University Hospital and a couple of blocks from the Howard Theater.

On Saturday night at around 9 p.m., the victim in his 30s had just gotten out of a taxi and was walking to a friend’s house when a man approached him from behind with a gun.

The victim told FOX 5 that after an altercation, the suspect struck him on the head with the gun several times.

"I have several staples in my head,” the victim said. “I was lucky in that I don’t require surgery.”

The suspect ripped the man’s pants to take his wallet and phone.

The victim says he used the credit cards right away at a Wendy’s restaurant on New York Avenue. The card was also used at a Shell gas station, a 7-Eleven, a Kids Foot Locker, and a Rite Aid store where $500 was spent.

"It's hard and it hurts and the reason why I am [speaking out on] this is because I want that neighborhood to be safe and I want the police to get this guy because he roughed me up for basically a joyride,” said the victim.

The victim has nothing but praise for D.C. police and D.C. Fire and EMS and says they came very quickly and knew just what to do and what to ask.
