Today is Monday, Feb. 10, the 41st day of 2014. There are 324 days left in the year.

FED RECOGNIZES SAME SEX MARRIAGE - A historic announcement is expected from President Obama today. The Obama administration is set to announce it will start treating same-sex legally married couples the same way as other married couples in federal legal matters—including bankruptcy proceedings, prisoner visitation and death benefits for slain police officers. It's another step for the President who during the 2008 campaign had said marriage should be between a man and woman, before later saying his views had "evolved" and supported it. Opponents of same-sex marriage say that the Obama administration should wait for Congress to pass legislation that would allow federal recognition of gay marriages in states where it is legal to wed.

NFL PROSPECT COMES OUT - When former Washington Wizard Jayson Collins came out as a gay man last year he found widespread acceptance, but he also found pockets of intolerance among comments of some NBA players. Now the NFL is about to face the same test. Michael Sam Missouri's All-America defensive end came out as a gay man last night in three national interviews. Sam is one the most highly touted defensive college players, and If he's drafted in May, he could become the first openly gay player in America's most popular sport. Sam will participate in the NFL combine later this month in Indianapolis and is projected to be a mid-round draft pick.

MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE - 1:00pm in his State of the Union the President made a point of saying he wants the minimum wage raised from its current mark of $7.25 to $10:10. Today one of the President's point people on Capitol Hill sets to work on one of the toughest audiences for the idea: business owners. In La Plata Maryland Democratic Senator Ben Cardin will lead a roundtable talking about the impact a higher wage have not only on business who will have to pay it, but the economic impact on the country when workers have more money to spend. Critics say the proposal is a double-whammy for businesses coming on the heels of what they say are higher health insurance costs as a result of Obamacare.

DEBT CEILING DEADLINE - Republicans and Democrats have been saying since October they don't want a repeat of the stand off that lead to a Government shutdown. But they so far have not come up with a deal to avoid the dead ceiling limit that if hit could lead to yet another government shutdown. There's not a lot of time either.
Once the House adjourns Wednesday, the House will not return for a full workday until Feb. 26, which is one day before Treasury Secretary Jack Lew has said he will lose his ability to borrow to pay the nations debts. The defaulting on portions of the nation’s more than $17 trillion debt, could send global financial markets reeling.
