A man was arrested Friday afternoon after Secret Service police say he tried to scale the fence on the north side of the White House.

Secret Service spokesman Max Millen told FOX 5 the man did not make it over the fence.   He was taken into custody by U.S. Park Police and uniformed Secret Service officers.

Millen says the man was carrying two bags, which were declared suspicious.  Metropolitan Police officers are inspecting the bags.

President Obama is in Michigan, and was not home at the time of the incident.
