The latest round of winter weather brought freezing rain to the D.C. region overnight, and that meant a slippery Wednesday morning commute for many. A number of area school districts opted to close as a result of the weather, and drivers who do have to head out are urged to be careful.

FOX 5's Tucker Barnes says temperatures are rising, but it'll take a little time to warm up across the region. By 7 a.m., Winchester, Va. reported .30" of ice, while Germantown, Md. had .25" and Leesburg, Va. reported .25" of ice. Across the region, ice was present on sidewalks, in parking lots and on hand rails, which could make for dangerous conditions for those trying to navigate on foot.

FOX 5's Melanie Alnwick, who was in Frederick, Md., reported very slippery conditions on the roads and sidewalks, and ice on trees and power lines. Secondary roads appeared to be the most difficult to navigate in many areas. Frederick County government offices and facilities were delayed in opening as a result.

A number of school districts across the region were either delayed or closed as a result of the weather. FOR A COMPLETE LIST OF UPDATED CLOSINGS AND DELAYS FOR WEDNESDAY, CLICK HERE.

Barnes says we should see sunshine by later this afternoon, and highs should reach the upper 40s.
