MARKHAM, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Child welfare officials are investigating the Monday morning death of a 3-year-old boy from south suburban Markham.

Josiah Arrington of the 16100 block of Kedzie Avenue died at 12:15 a.m. at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The state Dept. of Children and Family Services is investigating Josiah's mother for allegations of neglect, DCFS spokeswoman Veronica Resa said.

The agency has one previous unfounded neglect allegation regarding Josiah from July 2013, Resa said. There are no other children in the home.

Police couldn't immediately provide details on the circumstances surrounding Josiah's death.

An autopsy performed Monday returned inconclusive, pending further investigation, according to the medical examiner's office.
