DDOT delays continue, officials working to bring change

Maintenance problems and a lack of drivers means DDOT is short around 25 buses at any given time.

FOX 2's Amy Lange spoke with the new DDOT director, Dan Dirks, and he says that management and union leaders are working on all of these issues, and they are riding the buses experiencing the problems firsthand.

"We've brought in a number of maintenance companies to start working on the buses in addition to our own mechanics, so we're trying to crank out buses as quickly as we can. We're even looking at the possibility of leasing buses on an emergency basis to get a lot more on the road. So we know this is a serious problem but we're addressing it as quickly as possible," says mayoral spokesperson Alexis Wiley.

One rider told Lange Monday she already sees improvements.

"It seems like they're doing better. The wait has cut down a little bit, too, I've noticed that. So, that's a blessing because it's really cold outside. No one wants to sitting out here for a long time waiting for the bus," says Tema Culberson.
