SoCal Winter Weather Advisory In Effect

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (FOX 11 / CNS) - A winter weather advisory was issued today for the Los Angeles County mountains, where snow accumulations of at least two to four inches -- and possibly more in some areas -- were forecast, National Weather Service officials said.

Snow flurries fell today in the Grapevine area along the Golden State (5) Freeway and in the San Gabriel Mountains and snow levels were expected to drop down to 3,500 feet overnight, according to the NWS.

Snow was expected to accumulate above 4,500 feet, with the heaviest accumulations above 5,000 feet along the southern slopes of the San Gabriel Mountains, the weather service reported.

The winter weather advisory was in effect until 9 a.m. Monday.

Drivers were warned of possibly icy conditions and poor visibility during snowfall.

Road closures were possible on the Golden State Freeway over the Grapevine and on State Route 2 in the San Gabriel Mountains, according to the NWS.

The snow is the result of a cold low pressure system that brought rain to some parts of the Southland today, according to the weather service.

"Snow showers are expected to come to an end by mid-morning Monday as the low pressure system moves east," NWS officials said.
