Southwest, JetBlue to add flights at Reagan National Airport

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON - Wanna get away?  Travelers at Reagan National Airport will soon have even more chances to do just that.  Both Southwest Airlines and JetBlue Airways announced Thursday that they've secured a number of new slots at the airport, meaning new offerings for passengers.

Southwest Airlines said they'll offer an 27 additional daily flights at Reagan National, while JetBlue says they expect to add 12 new roundtrip flights-- some to cities they don't yet serve.

The changes are a result of an agreement with the U.S. government which requires that American Airlines must sell the the takeoff and landing rights.   The slot purchases are subject to final approval of the U.S. Justice Department, the airlines said.
