CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Russian Olympic officials claim there will be no discrimination against gays during the winter games in Sochi.

At least, that's the promise from the Mayor of Sochi's Olympic Village.

Mayor Svetlana Zhurova told reporters Monday that Russia will abide by the anti-discrimination laws of the Olympic charter because they have to.

Zhurova, who is an Olympic speed skating champion, says she does not like to having to pretend to be tolerant.

But she says Russia wants to avoid negative media coverage during the games.
